[Photography] Deezel Photoshoot

Yes, I will be posting some photography of mine because I suppose it's part of Graphic Design in more ways than one.

For my digital photography class we're required to take pictures using certain settings or environments, but our subject is entirely up to us. A couple of weeks ago, my professor allowed me to take home the $3,000 school camera (Canon EOS 5D with a ridiculous lens) for the weekend. Of course, the first thing I thought of was Deezel, which resulted in the entire memory card filled with pictures of him and my professor sick of his beautiful face :P

Despite the 2038484930203933 photos taken, here were my favorites. Oh and for anyone wondering (which you all should be ), he is available for modeling :P

*Note - I had no idea what I was doing. First time using a camera like that. Three days was not enough!

[Portfolio] Home page construction

So here's the first design of my portfolio's site home page. I wanted it to be really simple, hence the simplicity lol. The navigation is most likely going to change a million times before I like it, and there will probably be a footer added. Also, everything is going to be made a bit smaller because I want it all to fit on screen when people visit the home page. I don't want Deezel cut off or anything.

But yeah, suggestions? Comments?

[Bad Dog] Site piece finished

So here he is, all finished and naughty-like. He's tearing a hole in the internet! He's going to be in the bottom right hand corner of the website, but that's all I've designed so far.

[Bad Dog] Sketch for my upcoming site

Sure took forever to get motivated to draw today. Been stressing out about the web design project that's due tomorrow, so my way of coping is to sit and stare blankly at my computer screen and tell myself that I'm bored, despite having multiple things I could be doing.

So around 10:00 I forced myself to grab my tablet and start drawing for my portfolio site. This is the current result. Yes, it's Deezel and yes, he's ripping apart the page (which will be the interwebz). There will be wires and crap coming out of the hole, but I like to take things a step at a time.

Bad Dog

For a year or so now, I've been itching to start a webcomic in hopes that it would become an internet sensation and I would get to sell cute t-shirts with my art on it. Realistically though, it's unlikely. Despite my hopes and dreams being crushed by the jerk known as reality, the webcomic is still something I want to do and will continue to do.

For those who do not know me very well, I have a yellow lab named Deezel, who will be 2 years old this April. Due to all of the retarded stuff he's done over the years, he is now the subject of my webcomic - Bad Dog.

A couple of weeks ago, my mom came home to discover that Deezel ate his collar. Yes, ATE his collar, while it was still attached to him. Why he thought the thick piece of leathery fabric was delicious, I have no idea, but I guess it was pretty tasty.

Usefulness and Likeability of Angry Birds

So I was looking up something the other day and I came across this chart describing Angry Birds and each one's popularity. I fell in love with the idea and decided to steal it do the same, but with my own words and my own artwork, of course.

The chart below lists each angry bird based on likeability and how I feel they are ranked (based on myself and friends) -- the one on the left being the best and the on the right being the worst. Then I describe what they do and their usefulness (or un-usefulness) to the game.

Each bird was hand drawn and colored/shaded/etc by me. You can click on the thumbnails of each bird for a closer look C:

How about some graphic design

While the title says Sketch Blog, there's no rule saying I can't post un-sketchy related things :P With that said, I will be posting any sort of work I wish to share, drawings or not.

For my Publication Design final a few months ago (last semester), we were required to redesign 21 pages of a magazine of our choosing. Considering I love video games, I picked OXM -- Official Xbox Magazine. We were to redesign the logo, cover pages, table of contents, news section, 3 page article section, and a 5 page article section. If you click on the thumbnails below, they will redirect you to the PDF links, which will open in Google Docs. For whatever reason, Google Docs makes them look a bit distorted, so if you look over the left hand side of the page, click the tab that says "file," and then click on "download original," you should see the clean, crisp images.

I left out the cover page because the image I used is no longer high quality, so it looks like crap.

Enjoy :D

Catching Up

So considering I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold the pencil, and just got around to starting this blog, I have some catching up to do regarding my work. I've decided not to show off any of my really old work because it's horrifically embarrassing, but to at least show some progression, I'll mix in some things from when I started college (and a little before). Not going to put everything on here, for it would take up a crap ton of space, just some of my favorites.

The images you see below are thumbnails, which you can click on to enlarge them. You'll find some concept art, a few of my Threadless designs, random sketches, school projects, etc. I'll attempt to order them from newest to oldest for those interested in seeing how I've improved (or not).

Sorry for the cutesy art. I need to get going on my badass stuff.

Being lazy

So after a complete weekend attending PAX East in Boston, I learned a few things from one of the panels I went to regarding careers in the gamin industry. They talked about what they looked for, how to stand out, and also mentioned something about keeping a sketch blog. Now, I've seen a few of these before and always told myself I'd get to it, but school and other personal projects always seemed to have sidetracked me. Alas, not today! So here it is, my shiny new sketch blog!

Problem is, I hate its design. I spent a good portion of today trying to get ideas and throwing a few things together in photoshop, but I'm a bit too nervous to attempt putting it together in Dreamweaver. So for now, you have a simplistic, ugly as hell, blog design to unfortunately look at as you look through my work. Hopefully, I'll get around to changing it after spending more time with my advanced web development professor.

:D
